My Travel Staples
I know there are a million lists like this about, but I wanted to share mine. I went through a phase in the past few years where I toddled along to Bentley’s before a trip to see what they had that was new and useful. You can get some really reasonable stuff, like simple card holders, which are still really useful. I have now come to a point where I am content with my “travel things” and know what I have and what I want to take where.
- PacSafe backpack– I bought this in 2017 and it has been such a great purchase! PacSafe is an excellent brand and I look forward to buying more of their items in the future. There are so many details in this backpack, like the zip lock hidden under that flap, and a metal cord that lets you tie it to a hostel bed. The shoulder and hip straps also tuck in, so it can be checked on a flight without all the “flappy stuff” hanging out. The investment was definitely worth it!
2. Travelling purse: I now have quite strict requirements for my travelling purses:
- all pockets must have zippers, so if it is tipped upside-down nothing will fall out
- small pockets for cards and the passport (hopefully soon to be two passports!)
- it must be a shoulder bag so that you can wear it and have your hands free, with walking to much you won’t want a big bag weighing down your elbow
- they must be a neutral colour as not to attract attention, I have many purses and I like colour but in this case the least attention the better
- while I have never had reinforced straps, you can get purses prevent from the straps being cut right off your body (here)
3. I especially love travel items that I make use of throughout the year too. This towel that I bought a few years ago is perfect! I take it to hot yoga, to the gym for showering, and on every trip I take. When you have to shower, then pack and have your things in a bag all day it really does matter how fast it dries. Side note: microfibre cloths are also great for cleaning- a wet microfibre cloth even cleans my car of all the prairie dust that we have!
4. Compartmentalization can be a lifesaver while travelling. Chucking everything into one big space will be a disaster. This is why packing cubes have become so popular. I LOVE these little cases from Bentley. They come in so many cute designs so you can know what is in each. In these I keep: SIM cards, bobby pins, jewelerry, headphones, and everything else. They are the perfect size that they don’t have up as much room as a normal glasses case would, but they offer a lot of protection because they are so hard. IN. LOVE.
